Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a family of fat-soluble antioxidants called tocopherols. Tocopheryl acetate is the stable ester form most skincare uses; skin converts some of it to free vitamin E.

Is tocopheryl acetate vegan?
Yes. It is made from plant oils or synthesised.
Is vitamin E good for scars?
Studies haven’t shown that topical vitamin E improves scars, and it can irritate some people. It is best thought of as an antioxidant and conditioner.
What is the difference between tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate?
Tocopherol is vitamin E in its free, active form: an antioxidant that also protects the oils in a formula from going off. Tocopheryl acetate is a more stable ester of it; skin converts only some of it back to tocopherol, so it mainly conditions skin and keeps the product fresh.
