The actives and the oils
Turmeric is the golden root of Curcuma longa, a relative of ginger. Its colour and much of its reputation come from curcumin.
Curcumin is an antioxidant, and turmeric is used in masks and balms for its soothing, glow-giving reputation. As a powder it also tints a formula gold.

Questions
Pure turmeric can leave a temporary yellow tint. In a formula it is one ingredient among many, and any tint washes off.
It is valued as an antioxidant and for a soothing reputation. A few people are sensitive to it, so patch-test a new mask first.
