Why it’s in a formula

Carotenoids are antioxidants, and the extract is used for a nourishing, skin-conditioning reputation.

Beta-carotene is a provitamin A: eaten, the body can turn it into vitamin A. On skin, carrot extract is not a retinoid, and it doesn’t make a formula a retinoid product.

Is carrot extract a retinoid?

No. It contains beta-carotene, which the body can convert to vitamin A when eaten, but carrot extract isn’t a retinoid and isn’t treated as one.

Is carrot root extract the same as carrot seed oil?

No. Carrot seed oil is an essential oil pressed from the seeds, with a strong scent. Root extract comes from the root and isn’t used for fragrance.
