How it behaves in skin, in cosmetic terms. We never state a therapeutic claim, and never a concentration the maker hasn't disclosed.

Vitamin C

Antioxidant vitamin

INCI · Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate · Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate · Ascorbyl Glucoside (the forms in Lumière)

What it is

A water-soluble antioxidant vitamin used topically to brighten and defend. Pure ascorbic acid is the most-studied form; stabilised derivatives trade a little potency for shelf stability.

How it behaves

Neutralises free radicals generated by UV and pollution, participates in the skin's own collagen-supporting pathways, and interrupts steps of melanin formation — which is why consistent use is associated with a more even, luminous tone.

Evidence · One of the most extensively studied topical antioxidants.

In Lumière

Matrixyl 3000

Matrikine signal-peptide complex

INCI · Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 + Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7

What it is

A pair of lipid-tagged peptides (matrikines) designed to reach the living layers of the epidermis — generally a gentler route than retinoids.

How it behaves

Matrikines act as messengers, signalling skin to maintain the matrix proteins that give it structure. In use this reads as support for the look of firmness and a softening of fine lines, and it is generally well tolerated.

Evidence · A widely studied peptide complex with published cosmetic trials.

In Le Peptide

Collagen, and “vegan collagen”

A name, not an ingredient

INCI · None: no Divina ingredient list contains collagen

What it is

True collagen is animal-derived, and Le Peptide contains none. “Vegan collagen” is a marketing phrase, not an ingredient: serums sold under it usually contain peptides, as Le Peptide does, with its Matrixyl 3000 pair.

How it behaves

Collagen applied to skin, from any source, only moisturises the surface: its molecules are too large to replace the skin’s own. Peptides and retinoids are the ingredients used to support it.

Evidence · Topical collagen is a surface moisturiser; it doesn’t rebuild skin’s collagen.

Hyaluronic Acid

Humectant polysaccharide

INCI · Sodium Hyaluronate / Hyaluronic Acid

What it is

A humectant that holds many times its weight in water. Multiple molecular weights hydrate at different depths of the upper skin.

How it behaves

Draws and binds water at the surface for an immediate plumped, dewy look. It adds no water of its own — in dry air it must be applied to damp skin and sealed with a moisturiser, or it can draw moisture outward.

Evidence · Foundational, well-characterised humectant.

INCI · Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 · Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (Le Contour); Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 · Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 (Le Sérum Cils)

What it is

Short amino-acid chains that act as messengers rather than actives you feel working.

How it behaves

Signal skin to support firmness and to soften the look of expression lines; on lashes and brows, to condition them for a fuller look. Generally well tolerated, and easy to layer.

Vitamin E

Lipophilic antioxidant

INCI · Tocopherol / Tocopheryl Acetate

What it is

The skin's principal fat-soluble antioxidant, and a classic partner to Vitamin C.

How it behaves

Protects skin lipids and formula oils from oxidation, conditions and softens, and regenerates Vitamin C — the two are more effective together than apart.

Evidence · Long-established antioxidant.

What it is

A rich plant butter dense in fatty acids and unsaponifiables.

How it behaves

Softens and cushions the surface and slows water loss, sealing hydration in — which is why it anchors body care and the richest night textures.

Evidence · Traditional and cosmetic staple.

What it is

A botanical rich in water-binding polysaccharides.

How it behaves

Cools, soothes, and lightly hydrates on contact, calming reactive or over-exposed skin — the reset after sun, shaving, or a day that asked too much.

Evidence · Traditional soothing botanical.

Polyphenol antioxidant

INCI · Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract

What it is

A botanical extract rich in catechins (notably EGCG).

How it behaves

Offers daily antioxidant defence against environmental stress and has a soothing character, which is why it turns up across the range, from a clay mask to a liquid foundation.

Evidence · Well-studied plant antioxidant.

What it is

The quiet workhorse humectant present in most well-built formulas.

How it behaves

A small molecule that draws and holds water effectively and gently, keeping skin soft and comfortable and helping other steps absorb.

Evidence · One of the most-studied, most-used humectants.
