Why it’s in a formula
It lightens shades and gives coverage and opacity. In shade ranges it usually appears in the “may contain” part of the list, because paler shades use more of it.
- It is also a sunscreen filter, but its presence doesn’t make a foundation a sunscreen. None of our pieces is tested or sold for sun protection.

Not reliably. Only a product tested and labelled with an SPF protects you. Wear a sunscreen under your makeup.
Is titanium dioxide safe in makeup?
On skin it is considered safe. The debates about it concern inhaling fine powder and eating it as a food additive, not wearing it.
