Why it’s in a formula
It absorbs excess oil and gives a matte finish, which is why it is the base of many clay masks. In a lipstick it helps set a matte, long-wearing finish.

Is kaolin clay good for sensitive skin?
It is one of the gentlest clays, so it suits most skins, though any clay mask can feel drying if left on too long.
What is the difference between kaolin and bentonite clay?
Kaolin is a soft, fine white clay that absorbs gently. Bentonite swells in water and absorbs far more oil, so it is stronger and can be more drying. Kaolin is the gentler choice for dry or sensitive skin.
