Lanolin
Lanolin is the wax-like grease that sheep produce to waterproof their wool. It is washed out of shorn wool and refined. Its derivatives, such as acetylated lanolin alcohol and isopropyl lanolate, are made from it.

Why it’s in a formula
It is a deeply softening emollient that holds on to moisture, which is why it gives concealers their cushion and glosses their comfort, and why eye creams use it.
- It is not vegan: it comes from an animal, even though the sheep aren’t harmed to collect it.

Is lanolin vegan?
No. It comes from sheep’s wool. Collecting it doesn’t kill the sheep, but it is still an animal product.
Is acetylated lanolin alcohol vegan?
No. It is made from lanolin, so it carries the same animal origin.
Does lanolin clog pores?
It can feel heavy on oily or breakout-prone skin, and some people find it congesting. On lips and around the eyes it is usually well tolerated.
