Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are strong foaming cleansers, common in shampoos, body washes and toothpaste.
They clean well and foam generously, but SLS in particular can leave skin feeling tight and can irritate sensitive skin.

Because strong sulfates can strip the skin’s oils and irritate sensitive skin, especially in leave-on or frequent use.
