Waxes, polymers and texture
Carbomer is a synthetic polymer made from acrylic acid. In water, once its pH is adjusted, it swells into a clear, smooth gel.
It gives gels and light creams their body and keeps other ingredients evenly suspended. It needs a pH adjuster, often triethanolamine or sodium hydroxide, to thicken.
