Why it’s in a formula
Without an antioxidant, the oils in a lipstick or concealer can go rancid, changing smell and colour. BHT keeps them fresh, in tiny amounts.
- EU safety assessors have reviewed BHT and consider it safe at the low concentrations used in cosmetics. Some people prefer to avoid it anyway.
