BHT, butylated hydroxytoluene, is a synthetic antioxidant. In cosmetics it protects oils and waxes from oxidising.
Without an antioxidant, the oils in a lipstick or concealer can go rancid, changing smell and colour. BHT keeps them fresh, in tiny amounts.
